Cooperation Q&A

1 Under what circumstances would AJA help most?

  • In the planning and design of service-oriented websites, mobile device applications, embedded system software and other digital interfaces.
  • There is intense competition in the market for the products or services offered, and you seek to actively innovate and differentiate yourself from others.
  • People often complain that the interface of your company's website or software products are not aesthetically pleasing or user-friendly.
  • You do not know how to make your products or services more appealing.
  • Your company offers a specialized technology but you do not know how to commercialize it
  • Your company invested heavily on the information system, but the operation is complex and inefficient.

2 Does AJA do application programming?

Currently, other than front-end Web developments, we do not provide application coding services. The functional characteristics of UX/UI designs are very different from that of program coding. UX and UI designs focus on what functions the product should provide, how to plan the operational procedures such that everything runs smoothly, and how to present the design visually, and the likes. AJA customers usually have their own RD's or external developers. This allows us to focus on doing what is required of us. We have extensive experience in working with development teams. We provide comprehensive design standards to enable seamless coordination with RD's both internal and external to the corporation and to ensure that the design is consistent with the final product. For Web UI's, we will be responsible for the front-end HTML pages and CSS code. Hence, all the RD has to do is to follow the standards and design templates we designed based on our prior communications or interviews with the customers, and focus on developing and optimizing the functions of the programs. If the you do not have an in-house programming team, we can also work with a developer of your choice or recommend a suitable program developer.

3 At which stage of product/service development should we bring in AJA?

We recommend that you bring in AJA as early as the initial product planning stage. This will help us understand your company's business strategies and objectives from the start. We can then conduct interviews with the relevant departments within your company to understand their requirements, conduct end user research, or study potential consumer needs or critical issues, and identify opportunities for improving or innovating your products or services. In this manner, not only do you save on internal manpower resources, you are also able to tap on the extensive experience that AJA has accumulated in your field, and enhance the success rate and competitiveness of your products/services. If product planning is completed and all specifications are confirmed, then only visual presentation can be improved. However, this can rarely bring higher value to your product and it does not solve the fundamental problems.

4 How long does each project normally take?

This depends on the size and content of the project, as well as the available manpower. A typical mid-sized App or website development project requires 4 to 6 weeks of research and planning. Following which, another 4 to 6 weeks is required for visual design, and an additional 4 to 8 weeks is needed to complete the job or for front-end development. Typically, developers will be able to start on program development midway through the design process, and both processes will then proceed concurrently. Where possible, it is advisable to spend a little more time on preliminary research and planning. This includes deciding on the design focus, specifications and design style. After these are firmed up, the efficiencies of downstream processes, such as details design and development, will increase correspondingly.

5How's the price like?

There is no fixed price for UX/UI designs. Prices vary from project to project, depending on the nature of the project, as well as the tasks and functional skills required. The price is usually dependent on the following factors:

  • Is there a clear specifications document? If not, a substantial amount of time will be needed at the initial stage for us to help you set your product strategies and goals, plan your product information architecture, design the operational processes and wireframes, etc.
  • The range of products/services While some projects emphasize more on visual presentation, others place more emphasis on the usage process. Some project require many icons and others involve complex layouts.
  • The degree of specialization Projects in specialized industries or with specialized user groups will require more time for researching and improving user experiences. Extra charges are also applicable for user interviews and testing.

Therefore, right from the start, we will do our utmost to collect relevant information, and provide a quotation based on actual work items, as well as the manpower and duration required. Typically, the budget for the UX/UI design of a mobile phone App can range from 0.8 to 2 million NT dollars; and that for website planning and design can be anything from 1 to 5 million NT dollars. As each project differs in nature and status, a quotation can only be provided after an overall assessment. We do have some customers with annual contracts. If the scale of the project or the quantities involved aren't very clear, but long-term collaboration is required, we will assign a suitable number of designers to your project based on the the magnitude of the project, and calculate our fees according to actual work hours. Hence, the assigned AJA designers will work exclusively on your project, much like your own in-house designers. However, this mode of collaboration is more suited for customers with a substantial level of collaboration with AJA and who requires AJA's assistance in design innovations for their projects. For more information on our price quotation, please contact us.

6 What information do I need to provide to get a quotation?

We require all or part of the documents or reference materials below for quotation:

  • A list of products/services
  • If the project relates to an upgrade, please provide the current version of the website/App for trial or testing
  • Existing plans or standards
  • Project targets or explanation on the new features

Where possible, it will be most effective if you can explain or present your project requirements to an AJA agent in person. We will first communicate with you over the phone to ascertain that the services AJA offer can meet your company's needs before arranging a business visit.

7 If I have a limited budget, how can AJA help me?

We understand that every customer faces budget constraints. Hence, if it is not possible for you to come up with the entire budget for UX/UI design in the initial stage, you can consider doing it in phases or splitting up the work. For example, a web design project can be divided into 3 stages, namely planning, visual design, and front-end development. Alternatively you can choose to outsource only the planning, visual design or front-end development work. However, we do not recommend that you bring in AJA only for visual design or front-end development work, because you will not be able to benefit fully from AJA's strengths of increasing product value and solving fundamental problems.

8 Could AJA provide me with a proposal before I decide on whether to engage your services?

We believe that an in-depth understanding of the problem is pertinent to the success of a good design. A substantial amount of manpower and time must be invested to come up with a good design plan. Each and every AJA project is unique and completely tailored to meet the customer's needs; there are no templates or shortcuts, only professional skills and experience painstakingly accumulated over time. What we can do is to present to you some similar cases we had handled in the past, and assist you in your internal communications by explaining how we will carry out the project, what results can we deliver, and the potential design direction.

9 What input does AJA require from the customer while the project is in progress?

In the early stages, you will need to provide us with plans, design standards, features list, etc., as well as the testing environment of your existing products/services. This will help us get an overview of the current status or project. Next, you will have to help us arrange interviews with the stakeholders or decision-makers of relevant departments to help us understand the expectations and targets that your internal staff have on the project. If your project includes user research, interviews, or testing, we welcome you to join us in understanding the end users' views and needs, and thereby identify opportunities for new products or innovation. The departments we interview typically include the development team (information department), sales department, business department, design department and decision-making managers, etc.

10 After the project comes to end end, what shall we do with subsequent upgrades or updates?

Generally, AJA provides a one-month warranty for the designs we deliver. We shall assume full responsibility for any defective or missing items in the design during the warranty period. Needless to say, if any defects or omissions are discovered during the development phase, we will still provide some support. Should you have in-house visual designers, we can pass the design content to them, and you can then fine-tune any visual details on your own. If you do not have in-house artistic personnel, AJA's staff can function as your exclusive designers. We will do our utmost to match your needs to suitable AJA staff. Our fees will be computed based actual work hours and payment is to be settled monthly.
